Heathrow airport Terminal 5 is the newest terminal which is exclusively used by British Airways. Terminal 5 is a state of art building which is the largest free standing building in UK. Glass & steel structure gives a feeling of open space and thus increases the efficiency of the building.
In 1989, they project of giving a new design to the terminal was started but government planning permission was only given in November 2001. The terminal was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on the 14th March 2008. This was opened to passengers on the 27th March 2008. In the coming days, Terminal 5 will be able to handle around 30 million passengers in a year which would increase the Heathrow's total number of passengers count to around 90 million. This increase would allow Heathrow airport to rank at the top among the list of worlds busy airports.
