In all there are five Heathrow terminals at London Heathrow Airport and they are categorized on the basis of flights departures and arrivals.

Terminal 1:-

Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights to the various destinations in UK and Ireland. You can also find some European & long-haul flights that operate from here. Flights to various places such as San Francisco in USA & Cape Town in South Africa are also operated from this terminal. Most of the UK airlines take charge and operate from here along with other airlines which include Aer Lingus, Air New Zealand, Asiana Airlines, bmi, British Airways, Cyprus Airways, Icelandair, South African Airways, Transaero Airlines, United Airlines, U.S Airways etc.

Terminal 2:-

The Terminal 2 at Heathrow airport deals with the flights which fly to European destinations only. There are also little long-haul flights as well. Many European airlines along with some other airlines operate from this terminal. Other airlines are like Aeroflot, Air Astana, Air France, Air Seychelles, Alitalia, Atlas Blue, Austrian Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines etc.

Terminal 2 has been shut by the BAA authorities and there will be new building constructed along it.

Terminal 3:-

The traffic at Heathrow Terminal 3 mainly deals with long-haul flights for United States, South America & Asia. There are also African and Australian airlines operating from this terminal as well as some flights to Europe. These airlines are Air Canada, Air India, Air Mauritius, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Virgin Atlantic etc.

Terminal 4

This terminal deals with long distance and European flights which are mainly operated by British Airways and KLM airlines. These flights operate to the famous destinations like USA, Canada, Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe (Paris and Amsterdam).

Terminal 5

This terminal is Heathrow Airport’s newest terminal which is only used by British Airways. The building of the Terminal 5 is made up of the glass & the steel structure provides a feeling of space that increases the energy efficiency of building. This terminal was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on 14^th March 2008 and was opened to the passengers on 27^th March 2008.
